Flipped Learning: Everything You Need To Know

Don’t have the time to complete the course content? Want pupils to become independent? The flipped learning approach has proven to work, we have been using this process for years and our pupils have seen more progress year on year.

Flipping the classroom enables teachers to have more time focusing on the application concepts rather than introducing students to topics. Here’s everything you need to know about flipped learning and how you can change the way you teach…

What Is Flipped Learning?

Flipped learning enables students to complete simple tasks independently, for example, this will enable students to answer 1 to 3 mark questions in an exam paper, which could be to define the different components of fitness. When the students return to the classroom instead of wasting time defining the fitness components, teachers can quickly assess their knowledge and then use the class time to apply the different fitness components to sporting examples and evaluate which fitness components may be needed and why.

By setting flipped learning mats, which we have produced specifically to accompany each and every video tutorial, we can support students in learning the foundation knowledge. This then allows teachers to apply and deepen their pupil’s knowledge even more, enabling them to access higher levels of thinking skills such as analytic and evaluating skills rather than just being able to define or identify. The impact of this means that pupils can succeed in answering high mark questions.

Let us help you support students in becoming independent and allowing you to flip your classroom, revolutionising teaching, and joining us in reforming education.

Change The Way You Teach…

Instead of introducing topics in class, set an independent task to answer a simple 1 mark low leveled question and let us support them by using our platform. Students have their flipped learning mats which have simple questions that they complete whilst watching our videos.

Students can then bring it to class or upload it straight to the teacher who can then iron out any misconceptions during the live lesson. Your class can then focus more on higher skills and accessing higher marks and you can set tasks that can apply the simple knowledge acquired independently to support them in succeeding in deeper levels of thinking of that topic area.

This process needs to be repeated throughout the course, students will become more independent, confident, and resilient and it will enable teachers to facilitate learning for their students.

Our Resourceful Flipped Learning Mats…

To help, we have prepared a flipped learning mat to accompany every video tutorial. These ask students for simple responses to help build a solid foundation of the topic area. We have all of these available on our site and within our courses, we are here to support teachers as well as students to revolutionise and reform teaching.

Teachers can purchase flipped learning mat books or download them online or send them straight to students meaning no need to print, students complete them online and send them back directly to teachers.

This saves teachers valuable time and allows them to focus on application tasks during live lessons. Teachers can also set our multiple-choice quizzes at the end of every video tutorial to check their students’ knowledge and understanding, these quizzes are marked automatically so students can see any questions they got wrong. This overall mark is reported to teachers, facilitating their knowledge in any misconceptions that need to be ironed out in class.

Once students can apply their knowledge, the teacher can then set the extended questions for that topic area, which is again where we come in! We have specific extended questions and a range of tasks to help support staff and students in deepening their knowledge and therefore succeeding by accessing higher marks.
